A little about us...
Second Wind Community Band aims to provide
a benefit to the community through our commitment to entertainment, fundraising,
and the development of musical skills in others such as other community
or school bands, as well as our own band members.
Second Wind bestows a source of entertainment
and enjoyment for a wide cross section of the community. This is achieved
by ensuring our performances of music, ranging from light classical to
jazz, is based on musical excellence and suited to a range of tastes and
age groups. A Stage Band of approximately 15 players within the
group has been developed to broaden the repertoire of the band.
The band regularly performs at many community
events and venues and often supports community organisations seeking to
raise funds for their activities such as school fetes, aged care homes,
community based retirement villages, church and charity functions, festivals
and special events such as Christmas. Although based in Brisbane,
the band prides itself on being able to bring musical entertainment to
both metropolitan and regional venues.
Most performances are free to the public
and there is little or no charge to event organisers. Members provide
their own instruments, transport and accommodation. Rehearsals are
held weekly in premises rented from Clayfield College at Clayfield. An annual
membership fee provides a modest source of funds for music, rehearsal
and performance activities, Musical Directors and some equipment.
Donations are sometimes made to the band to help fund new music or equipment.
Our schedule of performances demonstrates
our commitment to providing a benefit not only to the Brisbane community
but regional venues as well.
